Self Refferal vs. Object Refferal (pdf)
Heal Depression by Shining Your Inner Light

When our attention is directed exclusively outward to the objects of experience and we don't meditate or have deep experiences of prayer or other spiritual practices, we easily lose touch with the unbounded awareness and bliss of the Self. This outward turning of awareness is known as "object referral." On the other hand, turning inward to gain the experience of the Self is called "Self-referral."

STEPPENWOLF lyrics - The Pusher: "STEPPENWOLF lyrics - 'The Pusher'

You know I've smoked a lot of grass
O' Lord, I've popped a lot of pills
But I never touched nothin'
That my spirit could kill
You know, I've seen a lot of people walkin' 'round
With tombstones in their eyes
But the pusher don't care
Ah, if you live or if you die

God damn, The Pusher
God damn, I say The Pusher
I said God damn, God damn The Pusher man

You know the dealer, the dealer is a man
With the love grass in his hand
Oh but the pusher is a monster
Good God, he's not a natural man
The dealer for a nickel
Lord, will sell you lots of sweet dreams
Ah, but the pusher ruin your body
Lord, he'll leave your, he'll leave your mind to scream

God damn, The Pusher
God damn, God damn the Pusher
I said God damn, God, God damn The Pusher man

Well, now if I were the president of this land
You know, I'd declare total war on The Pusher man
I'd cut him if he stands, and I'd shoot him if he'd run
Yes I'd kill him with my Bible and my razor and my gun

God damn The Pusher
Gad damn The Pusher
I said God damn, God damn The Pusher man"

Of primary
importance to its addictive nature
are findings that nicotine activates
the brain circuitry that regulates
feelings of pleasure, the so-called
reward pathways. A key brain
chemical involved in mediating
the desire to consume drugs is
the neurotransmitter dopamine,
and research has shown that
nicotine increases the levels of
dopamine in the reward circuits.
Nicotine’s pharmacokinetic
properties have been found also
to enhance its abuse potential.
Cigarette smoking produces a
rapid distribution of nicotine to
the brain, with drug levels peaking
within 10 seconds of inhalation.
The acute effects of nicotine
dissipate in a few minutes, causing
the smoker to continue dosing
frequently throughout the day to
maintain the drug’s pleasurable
effects and prevent withdrawal.
What people frequently do
not realize is that the cigarette
is a very efficient and highly
engineered drug-delivery system.
By inhaling, the smoker can get
nicotine to the brain very rapidly
with every puff. A typical smoker
will take 10 puffs on a cigarette
over a period of 5 minutes that
the cigarette is lit. Thus, a person
who smokes about 1-1/2 packs
(30 cigarettes) daily, gets 300
“hits” of nicotine to the brain each
day. These factors contribute
considerably to nicotine’s highly
addictive nature.

AA Slogans
Toward a Participatory Worldview: "The Litany of the Circle
Every part of this earth is sacred, every shining pine needle, every sandy shore, every mist in the dark woods, every clearing and humming insect is holy. The rocky crest, the juices of the meadow, the beasts, and all the people--
All belong to the same family.
Teach your children that the earth is our mother. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the children of the earth. The water's murmur is the voice of our father's father. We are part of the earth, and the earth is part of us. The air is precious, for all of us share the same breath.
This we know; the earth does not belong to us; we belong to the earth.
This we know; all things are connected, like the blood which unites one family.
All things are connected. Our God is the same God, whose compassion is equal for all.
For we did not weave the web of life; we are merely a strand in it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.
